College Football Market Update — Tuesday, September 8, 2026
Tuesday gave us several important injury and matchup developments across the Week 2 college football board. The biggest themes right now are offensive-line health, returning defensive starters, and a few early weather spots that could become relevant by Saturday.
OKLAHOMA @ MICHIGAN
WHAT WAS REPORTED
Oklahoma got good news up front and on defense.
Defensive lineman Danny Okoye is expected to play after being held out of the opener against UTEP.
Brent Venables also said offensive linemen Ryan Fodje and Jake Maikkula will begin ramping back up this week after both missed Week 1. Oklahoma had to shuffle the line against UTEP, including starting true freshman Noah Best at center.
Michigan tight end Hogan Hansen remains questionable with an undisclosed injury.
The early weather forecast in Ann Arbor is worth watching. Current projections are around 79–83°F with winds in the 11–15 mph range and gusts potentially near 20 mph. Rain risk currently looks low. (weather.football)
BETTING IMPACT
The Oklahoma offensive-line news matters because Michigan’s defensive front represents a massive jump in competition from UTEP.
If Fodje and Maikkula return, that gives Oklahoma more experience and flexibility up front. Okoye returning also strengthens a Sooner defensive front facing a Michigan offense that looked disjointed in Week 1.

Oklahoma State suffered one of the biggest injury losses on the Week 2 board.
Starting left tackle Jacob Sexton is out for the season with a lower-leg injury.
The Cowboys struggled badly at left tackle after he went down, with Desmond Magiya taking over and having problems in pass protection.
Oregon also has some receiver issues. Five-star freshman Jalen Lott is out after hand surgery, while Iverson Hooks is dealing with a hamstring issue.

BETTING IMPACT
This is one of the strongest trench mismatches on the Week 2 board.
Oklahoma State is replacing its best offensive lineman immediately before facing an Oregon front loaded with speed and pass-rush talent.
The heat also matters more to Oklahoma State than Oregon if the Cowboys cannot sustain drives. A defense repeatedly going back onto the field in near-100-degree heat can wear down quickly.

ALABAMA @ KENTUCKY

Kentucky got encouraging defensive news Tuesday.
Starting cornerbacks Terhyon Nichols and Hasaan Sykes both practiced and are expected to return after missing the opener.
Kentucky also expects running back Jovantae Barnes back after he missed Week 1.
Alabama is also getting healthier. Running back AK Dear and defensive back Jireh Edwards are progressing toward returns.
Offensive lineman Will Sanders played through an oblique injury in the opener and had his workload managed.

BETTING IMPACT
Kentucky getting both starting corners back is significant against Alabama’s passing game.
That is much more important than simply saying Kentucky is “healthy.” Two starting defensive backs returning changes coverage depth and allows the Wildcats to play their preferred personnel.
Barnes also adds another experienced option to Kentucky’s backfield.
Weather should not be a factor here unless the forecast changes substantially.
ARIZONA STATE @ TEXAS A&M

Arizona State moves from a nearly stress-free Week 1 environment into one of the toughest road settings in college football.
Kenny Dillingham called Kyle Field about as difficult as it gets, and Texas A&M drew more than 100,000 fans for its opener.
The weather could add another layer.

The heat is more important than the rain here.
A 100-degree-feels-like environment can affect defensive rotation, cramping and late-game conditioning.
The wind is not strong enough yet to dramatically alter the handicap, but gusts around 20 mph can influence longer kicks and deep throws.
This is a spot where depth becomes especially important because both teams may have to rotate more heavily than usual.
MISSOURI @ KANSAS
WHAT WAS REPORTED
Missouri could get All-American left tackle Cayden Green back for Friday night.
Green practiced roughly three-quarters of Monday’s session and Eli Drinkwitz said he looked good. The staff wanted to see how he responded Tuesday before making a final call.
Missouri still does not have standout running back Ahmad Hardy, who remains weeks away from returning.

Getting an All-American left tackle back changes Missouri’s protection outlook and gives the offense more stability against Kansas.

SMU

SMU has several skill-position injuries to monitor after its win over Florida State.
Tight end Michael Uter, running back Chris Rhodes and receiver Derrick Singleton are all dealing with injuries and remain questionable.

The opponent gives SMU some margin for error this week, but multiple skill-position injuries are exactly the kind of thing that can become more important if they linger.

BOTTOM LINE
