Running back D’Andre Swift and wide receiver Rome Odunze both left Thursday’s practice early.

Odunze suffered a right-leg issue after attempting to remain on the field. The early expectation is that the injury is not serious.

Reports surrounding Swift are less consistent. One account described the problem as cramping caused by the hot and humid conditions, while another indicated a possible core or midsection injury. Chicago has not issued an official diagnosis.

Backup running back Kyle Monangai has also been managing a knee injury.

Swift’s status is the more important situation to monitor because Chicago could be dealing with injuries to its top two running backs. If Swift and Monangai are limited, the Bears’ backfield rotation and rushing projections would need to be reevaluated.

Odunze appears less concerning based on the initial information, but confirmation is still needed. Chicago does not play Carolina until September 13, giving both players more than a week to recover.

No point-spread adjustment should be made until Chicago provides a diagnosis or its first official practice report.

Defensive end Sam Okuayinonu did not travel to Australia and has been ruled out for the Week 1 game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Okuayinonu recorded 39 tackles and three sacks while making 12 starts last season. He was expected to have a significant role opposite Nick Bosa.

The 49ers are already thin at defensive end. Mykel Williams remains on the physically unable to perform list, while Romello Height has been managing an ankle injury. Keion White is the likely replacement for Okuayinonu.

Bosa traveled with the team but continues to work back from ACL reconstruction and a recent bout of knee tendinitis. George Kittle also made the trip while recovering from a hamstring injury.

San Francisco’s defensive-line depth is now one of the most important Week 1 situations.

Okuayinonu’s absence matters more because Bosa may not be ready for a normal snap count. If Bosa is limited and Height remains unavailable, the 49ers could enter the game with a severely reduced edge-rusher rotation against a loaded Rams offense.

Kittle and Bosa traveling is encouraging, but neither player should be considered fully cleared until San Francisco provides a definitive game designation.

Starting right guard Trey Smith acknowledged that he is still managing the hip problem that sidelined him during the latter portion of training camp.

Smith consulted a hip specialist before returning for six snaps in Kansas City’s preseason finale. He expects to continue playing through the issue.

Smith is currently expected to play, so this is a workload and effectiveness concern rather than a projected absence.

Because Kansas City is already monitoring Patrick Mahomes’ recovery and adjusting parts of its offensive line, Smith’s practice participation will be important once official reports begin. His availability directly affects interior protection and the Chiefs’ ability to control the line of scrimmage.

Seattle brought former Clemson offensive tackle Tristan Leigh in for a workout. Leigh played both tackle positions during the preseason before Minnesota waived him.

This is currently an offensive-line depth evaluation, not an immediate market-moving transaction. It becomes more meaningful only if Seattle signs Leigh to the active roster or announces another injury at tackle.

Dallas added veteran tight end James Mitchell to its practice squad. Mitchell has appeared in 35 NFL games but has only one career start.

This is a depth move and does not currently affect Dallas’ offensive projection, point spread or total.

The two situations that matter most today are Chicago’s offensive injuries and San Francisco’s depleted defensive front.

D’Andre Swift’s diagnosis is the most important unresolved development. Rome Odunze is expected to be okay, but Chicago has not provided official confirmation.

San Francisco’s edge-rusher depth is a legitimate Week 1 concern. Okuayinonu is out, Bosa’s anticipated workload remains unknown and multiple other defensive ends are injured or unavailable.

Trey Smith is expected to play for Kansas City, but his hip remains worth monitoring once the Chiefs begin filing official practice reports.

The league-wide Week 1 injury-reporting cycle has not started. The first required reports are due Wednesday, September 9. Until then, the absence of a player from the official NFL injury page does not mean that player is healthy.

No market move should be attributed to one injury unless the timing of the move matches the timing of the news. Current information should be treated as a watch list until official participation reports and game designations become available.
